01 | (Accidental) Video
[There's a sharp cracking sound as the video turns on, but the feed doesn't show a face or even a body. Instead, the picture starts off all black before the object that's blocking the screen pulls back: it's the heel of a boot, and it stomps down again a good few times before delivering a kick that sends the communicator skidding across the floor and into the far wall.
A mostly incoherent tirade, peppered with all kinds of colorful curses, accompanies this display.]
...my right to--?!...
...can pay with my sword through your stomach...
...damn interfering bastard--...
[Eventually, though, the fit of rage subsides, a hand reaches down to pick up the communicator, and a scowling face comes into view, only slightly obscured by the thin crack that's appeared across the top right corner of the screen. There's a few seconds of frowning, and then a blink of comprehension and he realizes that the device is on and capturing what he says. He doesn't know who's listening, but he has to assume that he can talk to the Powers That Be this way.]
Oi, whoever you are that's behind this idiot scheme: when I find you, I'm going to wring your damn neck like a dishrag and then cut you into pieces!!
[OOC:Start as you mean to go on? Kanda is in the dorms (room 101) having just seen the (helpful and informative!) orientation video. He's taking it rather well, all things considered. (I'm not sure what it says that this counts as taking it well.) Feel free to have characters hear the commotion coming from his room, if you'd prefer to meet him in full fit of pique run into him in person!]

And then slams the door in her face. (Rude, Kanda. Very rude.)]
[...Then, about five seconds later, he opens it again.] You don't have any hands. How the hell can you open a door when you don't have any hands?
[He doesn't actually think she's a trick or an illusion (he's quite familiar with the latter, in his way), so it's not like he's trying to poke holes in the logic of it all to reveal a truth beneath.
He's just being contrary, pure and simple.]

[To answer his question, her horn shimmers with golden magic, as does the door -- which then obligingly moves, in and out.]
It isn't difficult.
no subject
Quite a bit longer, in fact.
But there's no door slamming and no explosive outburst in answer.
He's not so much trying to figure out what to say, though. He's trying to figure out what to think. He's seen some astonishing things in his lifetime, but though he's sure that Innocence could have effects like what he's witnessing, his gut tells him that's not what this is.
After several long moments, he finally asks a question.] You come from a place where everyone is like this? Horses who can talk and move things with...? [He gestures towards her horn, reluctant to give a name to the ability.]

My own duty is to raise the sun each day, just as my sister raises the moon each night. Though I already have seen that this world does not function in the same manner.
[She glances up and away, thoughtful; her expression is unreadable.]

He does, however, appreciate her apparent composure and calmness in the face of a situation which is, arguably, even more foreign for her than it is for him. And he actually turns the seething vitriol down a notch in response.]
There's no place I know that's like that. Where is it, this Equestria? [It's hard to think of the possibility that she might be from an altogether different world than he is, but then it's equally hard to think of the land she's describing being anywhere on earth.]
no subject
[Celestia seems a little sad at this -- which is a little understandable, considering losing the sun she knows is like losing a lifelong companion.]
no subject
As strange as it seems, there's a kind of resonance for him in what she's said: The sun above us is not one I know.
It takes him back to an old old vision, the vision of a pure blue sky--hatefully beautiful--a sky that he knew even when it had never been the one above him. And there are words, too, from that time, something that had been said to him: Inside, I'm going insane with anger, but somehow I can maintain my sanity. Maybe it's because of you. If I were alone, I don't know what would have happened to me.
Maybe, he thinks, what's happening now is a bit similar.
He's quiet for a long moment before finally posing a question to which he seems actually interested in hearing her answer:]
What are you going to do?
no subject
[She folds her wings slightly as she waits -- not entirely, but a little closer to turning the royal persona off, as it were. Which she can't really do entirely, but it varies by degrees.]
I have been given that a great deal of thought. When the device they gave us played its film, it stated that we would be returned to our world the moment we left it once our duty here was complete. I don't know if I believe that...
[She lifts a hoof to her chest in consideration.]
But I have a luxury that others here do not. Equestria will survive, even thrive, in my absence, though it may take my subjects a little while to realize that. I can safely allow myself time to consider this situation.
For now, I intend to gather as much information as I can, and observe.
no subject
No, I don't think I believe it either. I do know I don't trust it though.
[And he does feel the pressing need to return for something--something which is much more sensitive to time and much more reliant on him. He isn't going to share specifics, but he can respect what she says she's planning and her reasons why, at least. In a way, his approach will have to be similar, though perhaps with a greater urgency to it.]
If I learn anything, I'll tell you.
no subject
I fear a magical duel with them will only risk others unnecessarily. [She says this as calmly as ever, but beneath it are hints of a core of steel. She not only finds no fear in the prospect of such combat, but doesn't even seem particularly dismissive of her chances.]
But I will gladly offer you any help that I can, if you find a way in which I can aid you.
no subject
He's not the type who enjoys working with others, so he doubts he'll ask for help from her per se, but he doesn't scoff at the offer, which, to anyone who knows him, is quite the amiable sign. He gives a simple nod.]
There ought to be people who've been and gone before us, if what we're being told is true. There should be records of them somewhere--records of what happened to them. [He's not entirely sure how to pursue that possibility--he's not a researcher nor a historian. If Bookman was here, or Lavi.... On his own, Kanda is totally in the dark about such things.]

I can think of powers that could have done this, and they're things which no one names magic. [He's thinking of the Ark which holds practically a whole world inside its rooms and twisting corridors--a dimension all its own made by the Earl and the Noah, commanded by the "Pianist," and harnessed by the Science Division.]
If you want to name it that then you can name my sword magic too. [He shrugs, as if to say it makes no difference to him what she wants to call any of it, which is true. The way he sees it, the effect is the same and he's more concerned with that than with identifying the nature of the cause.]

In fact, he likes this horse creature better than he likes most humans, which is why there's a sort of frank openness to the declaration.
He pauses a moment then, wanting to ask something but hesitating. It's an unusual display of sentiment from him, and it makes he somewhat uncomfortable, but after a few moments he does say what's on his mind.]
Where I come from, people think that unicorns are symbols of purity. Is that something you believe too?
no subject

He gives a single nod of acknowledgment.] Thank you.
[He might just as easily mean for something more abstract than for that particular answer--after all, he's a good deal calmer and more level-headed than he was when she first knocked.
He's still not a sociable person, though, and he withdraws a step into his room to indicate that, as far as he is concerned, this particular conversation has run its course.]
no subject
[She's capable of reading conversational cues, though; she nods her head sort of as a farewell, then steps back to leave him to his peace. At least he seems calmer, though, and that's something.]
